Ovarian cysts are common in women between puberty and menopause. Fortunately, they usually don’t cause much discomfort, but if you’ve ever experienced any complications from ovarian cysts, you know that the symptoms can be extremely painful. Ovarian cyst symptoms include a full sensation in the pelvic region when the cyst pushes against the bladder, tenderness or pain on either side of the lower abdomen, pain while defecating, tenderness of the breasts, changes in menstrual cycles, fatigue, and more.

Some of these symptoms are serious, like the sudden onset of abdominal pain, but others can be helped by losing weight. Cysts form in structures the ovaries grow called follicles, in which immature eggs develop. Sometimes, the follicle doesn’t open during ovulation to release the egg, and instead fills with fluid. In some women, the reason why the follicle doesn’t open the way it’s supposed to is because of hormone imbalances. The body needs to produce the right hormones in the right ratios to get the follicle to release the egg, but a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) prevents this.

Remedies for Ovarian Cyst Symptoms

Many women deal with these symptoms on their own because they’re minor or their physician can’t do much with medication. Don’t get me wrong. If you’re experiencing serious ovarian cyst symptoms, you should see your doctor immediately. There are medications and other treatments only doctors can give you, and they’re usually very effective.

However, there are many home remedies for not only treating ovarian cyst symptoms but also preventing more cysts from forming in the future. There are many over-the-counter medications that will reduce pain and keep inflammation under control (think ibuprofen), as well as certain stretches and exercises you can do to treat pain and prevent some types of cysts. One of the most effective ways to prevent cysts from forming in the first place is to maintain a consistent, healthy weight.

Where Weight Loss and Laser Lipo Fit

Being overweight causes many complications in common, even relatively benign health issues. Almost every woman will have an ovarian cyst at least once in their life but being overweight can cause more cysts to appear than normal. Since PCOS can keep creating cysts, the risk of complications rises if your hormone production is affected.

Losing weight and maintaining a simple movement and nutrition routine will help your body right its hormone levels and production. Of course, people with PCOS will have a harder time losing weight with diet and exercise than those without.

One answer is weight loss surgery. Dr. Tred Rissacher developed an FDA-cleared laser lipo treatment that targets fat hiding under the skin and gets the body to release that fat naturally. You might hear ‘laser’ and be scared off initially, but Dr. Rissacher’s treatment at his Slim Body Laser Spa in Stuart, Florida creates no scarring or discomfort. Most patients lose significant weight in only three weeks of treatment. Once you’re at a healthy weight, your body will be able to control its hormone levels better, reducing ovarian cyst symptoms and the risk of developing more cysts in the future.
